The variations of compressive and tensile strengths of materials were investigated. Uniaxial and indirect tensile tests were performed and the results of stress-strain diagrams were used to present a simple nonlinear- elastic model.  The results show that a simple parabolic elastic model can predict the stress-strain relation before failure.
